Phil Bainbridge
Managing Director
Phil has an extensive history in the Military and Emergency Services with over 25 years’ service in which time he has served on United Nations humanitarian operations alongside military deployments in the Former Yugoslavia and the Gulf.
As a fully qualified trainer, Phil offers employment opportunity in a wide range of subjects and is also a qualified trainer of DofE Supervisors and Assessors. Phil has supported numerous groups through the DofE Awards at all levels.
In 2019, Phil won the Spirit of Salford Award for his work around DofE and employability and Scorpio was awarded the Heart of Salford for the preventing holiday hunger project. Phil led Scorpio to the finalist stage for the Social Enterprise Award in the Salford Business Awards 2019.
William Edwards
Business Development Director
William has been involved with youth services in Manchester for the past 20 years. He has 4 years’ experience as a qualified outdoor adventure activities instructor including winter sports and leading summer high and lowland expeditions. He is also certified to train a variety of target sports including rifle shooting, archery and tomahawk throwing.
William loves the outdoors and has twice achieved the 3 Peaks challenge (climbing Snowden, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike) and completed a 54-mile, 24 hour walk for charity.
William has been a DofE supervisor for 5 years and has led expeditions in the UK and abroad. He is Rescue Emergency Care (REC) First Aid trained and has completed his Hill and Moorland leader training.
Dave Hughes
Operations Director
Dave has 34 years working experience, having served in the Forces in the UK, Germany, Austria and Denmark. Having also worked in the Civil Service, in Domestic and International Transport & Logistics all in a range of Managerial Positions. Holds a Certificate in Professional Competence for National Road Haulage from 2002 and also the IOSH – Managing Safely certification from 2015.
Dave has also in this time accrued over 20 years experience of working within Youth Organisations over 15 years of which are in a Leadership capacity. Rec2 First Aid trained, Hill and Moorland Leader trained, FA Certified Coach, Archery, Knife and Tomahawk Instructor, DofE Leader trained.
In 2018 Dave received the Scout Association Award for Merit for providing Outstanding Service for more than 10 years to Scouting, Dave also served as an Assistant District Commissioner during this time.
Carol Lomas
Finance Director
Carol has 32 years experience of financial services across national and international organisations in both profit and not for profit structures.
Carol was a founding member of Scorpio Community Development and continues to be at the heart of Scorpio’s evolution.
Carol also enjoys the great outdoors and has provided youth activities across a range of skills and supported DofE expeditions.
